Easy Ways to Learn the Simple Past Tense

  Using the simple past tense is not too difficult, its use is almost the same as the simple present tense. Simple past tense is used to express events or facts that occurred only in the past.In Indonesian we can say, "I read the book two days ago", "He ate noodle soup yesterday" or, "Tony went to Surabaya last month". That is called the simple past tense and how to use in English is not too much different.There are two important things that must be considered well and applied in the use of verbal and written.

1. Change the verb in the past tense we use the second verb, verb second could be called Past simple, or Verb 2. Simple Past Tense

Simple past tense is a kind of tenses are used to express the events that have occurred at a particular time in the past.

- Type of events can be short or long.- Also can be several events occur one by one.In general, there are two important facts to keep in mind the simple past tense is:- There are hundreds of kinds of irregular verbs (Irregular Verbs) with different shapes- Form negative sentences and questions (interrogative) in contrast to a positive sentence form example:

o You called Danielo Did you call Daniel?o You did not call Daniel.

In the example there are three sentences negative to positive form, negative and interrogative. On the negative and interrogative sentences verb "call" is not written in the form Verb II because there did as a marker of the past so that the verb "call" is written in the form Verb I.Formula Simple Past Tense and ExamplesHere is the formula simple present tense, divided into three forms:(+) Positive Form:- Subject + was / were + complement (complement)- Subject + Verb + Object IIExample :- I SAW a movie yesterday- Last year, Daniel was here

(?) The form interrogative:- Did + Subject + Verb + Object + I?Example :- Did you play football yesterday?

1. Declare activity / activities that have occurred around the time past. Usually the offender in the sentence did not state when the activity ends. Example :- I SAW a movie yesterday.- Did you have your dinner last night?- He did not wash his car.

2. To declare that some of the activities that have occurred in the past. Usually the number of operations of more than one. Example :- I finished work, walked to the beach, and found a nice place to swim- He arrived from the airport at 8:00 am, checked into the hotel at 9:00 am, and met others at 10:00 Am- Did you add flour, pour in the milk, and then eggs?

3. Declare a period of activity that has occurred in the past. The duration of the time described usually long. Could be two years,- I lived in Brazil for two years- Shauna studied Japanese for five years.

4. Declare habits happened and had stopped in the past. This form is the same as "Used to". Usually we add the description of time as always, Often, usually. Example :- I studied Japanese language when I was child.- She worked at the movie theater, when she was in junior high school.

5. Declare a general truth that has ever happened in the past that no longer exist. Example :- She was shy as a child, but now she is easy going /- He did not like tomatoes before.
